| While stationed at Achem, Bill had to deliver dispatches to Wunstorf. Before it was captured, Wunstorf was a German airfield. Polish prisoners-of-war were held captive and were forced to work for the Germans. The Polish were put into a concentration camp - a shack that resembled a pig sty. The stench was awful. At the back of the shack was straw mixed with human dung. It was the Poles only toilet. Before the British could liberate the Polish people, the Germans shot them all. Their graves can be see outside the cookhouse. In the second picture, Bill's 350 Triumph is parked at Wunstorf before the concentration camp was demonished completely. |
